Mana and Leveling

Magic Rules

    1. Magic has levels of ability. Your character cannot use spells they do not know - doing so will result in potential harm to your character and a failed spell.
    2. In order to learn more spells, your character must have the required amount of levels and practices for his or her magic.
    3. Magic has limits. All members must adhere to the overcasting rules otherwise their character(s) may face severe repercussions or death. This could also result in crippling your character's magic ability.
    4. Your character cannot be all powerful. Even if you've achieved the highest tier of magical ability, you are still required to adhere to overcasting rules. Even the strongest of magic users will feel the effects of over-casting their spells.

Magic Levels

Your levels have everything to do with magic. The higher level you are, the higher your mana is and the more you can cast spells. Without mana, you wouldn't have the ability to cast spells. This is also each level for the magic. For example, if you have 2 levels of illusion, that means you can cast level 1: imagery and level 2: mirage. Each level has it's own unique amount of mana required to cast, and below you can find it:

    Level 1 - 20 mana
    Level 2 - 40 mana
    Level 3 - 60 mana
    Level 4 - 80 mana
    Level 5 - 100 mana

Your mana can increase not only with practicing your powers, but also by gaining levels. The farther you go up the scale, the more and more exp is required to level up. It's harder than it sounds. Level 5 is the highest level that you can possibly make it to (for now). Below you can find a breakdown of the required amounts of exp to level up.

Level 1 - 0 to 125 exp.
Level 2 - 126 to 250 exp.
Level 3 - 251 to 366 exp.
Level 4 - 367 to 500 exp.
Level 5 - 501 to 687 exp.

All of this means that instead of buying your magic levels after level 1, you earn them. The more experience you gain, the more magic levels you can gain, which, thus, means the more you can level and you can become a master in the magic that you chose!

Please note that as time goes, there will be more levels other than the 5 stated here.

Ways to gain levels

You can gain levels by doing multiple things. Tasks, quests, hunting, and foraging are all prime examples of things that you can do to level up. Below you can find a list of things that your character can accomplish in order to gain exp. If you want to add something to this list, please PM a staff member with the idea/suggestion.

Overcasting

Overcasting is when you cast a spell when you don’t have enough mana. When you overcast, staff will roll an online dice to see if you either a. Get incredible exhaustion or b. Pass out. If the overcast is too extreme (such as casting a level 5 spell when all of your mana is depleted), staff roll a die to see if the character either passes out or dies. Below you can find a list of symptoms that you character can experience depending on how much more mana they use than they have.

Mild Symptoms (10 - 30 mana points over) - Lightheadedness, hunger, fatigue.
Minor Symptoms (31 - 40 mana points over) - Headaches, fatigue, hunger, minor joint pains.
Moderate Symptoms (41 - 70 mana points over) - Headaches, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, vision fading in and out, sore muscles, significant joint pains.
Severe Symptoms (71 - 99 mana points over) - Migraines, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, muscle and join spasms, temporary loss of sight, temporary loss of consciousness.
Extreme Symptoms (100+ mana points over) - Coughing up blood, internal bleeding, migraine, excruciating pain, hallucinations, most cases dead.

Odd numbers are used to determine exhaustion while even numbers determine if you pass out. For overcasting a level 5 spell when all of your mana is depleted, the rolls are for passing out is odd and death is even.
